LCD HDTV VIZIO
I purchased this set on tuesday and after a few
days I am going to do a short review. I will update next week after I
have had more time with the settings.
Overall it is a very good
set. Picture is great, features are great and it looks awesome mounted
on my wall. I like the minimal design, I like the minimal remote as
well, even though most people seem to be upset there isn't a keyboard.
The only function button on the TV itself is a small power button on the
rear of the set, near the HDMI ports, for turning it on and off. I am
fine with that, as I have several remotes that program and I don't plane
on "Losing" the remote like some reviewers are worried about. (see: too
lazy to look for it). here's a couple of categories:
Design: 5/5
The
bezel is thin, and sexy. The set itself not thick depth-wise, but not
too thin either. It weighs about 55 pounds and is easy to move around.
The Vizio badging is in the bottom right corner, and is very minimal and
classy. I'm so glad they no longer do the lit up Vizio emblems.The
screen itself has a matte finish, and hides glare definition, but no all
the glare. If you have an open window directly across from it, it will
show. But at least it only shows as a glare, not defined images. This
should be expected, and the matte screen hels a lot.
Picture 5/5
The
picture is outstanding. I'm talking overall picture here, not the clear
motion and added bells and whistles, I'll get to that later. As for the
picture, each preset color/contrast setting is done very well. I
primarily use the VIVID setting, as it is the brightest, and the colors
just pop on the screen. HD content is phenomal. This is what 1080p was
designed for. I'm talking true 1080p content.

As for the TV, the picture is great, even better after some tuning and
using it is a breeze. I ran the HDMI cable to my surround sound
receiver, and made a couple of adjustments and now I use one remote for
all devices. About the only negative isn't with the TV at all, but with
the LED/LCD platform itself. It turns out that the viewing angle of
these TVs is a lot narrower than a Plasma TV, so you need to sit close
to the middle to get the best picture. That doesn't mean that everyone
has to crowd onto the sofa, it just gets "cloudy" when you are way to
the side.

Let me take you through it step by step. The TV
was surprisingly lite and easy to take out of the box. Installing the
stand was simple and took maybe 5 minutes altogether. The first thing I
noticed was the size of the screen. This 48 inch TV was an upgrade from
my 39 inch Samsung. Still I didn't think it would make that big of a
difference. Well it did. Part of this is because the black border is so
thin (maybe a little over an inch).

I was ready to purchase the `12 model year Samsung
5000 series TV when I found out that this updated model was available.
My local big box stores did not have the F5000 series in stock yet so I
had to take a chance on this set and buy it sight unseen.
I would
rate myself as a fairly knowledgeable user, and a very picky one at
that. I read AV forums online and I constantly tinker with my TVs to get
the best picture possible out of them. I am very glad that I waited to
get this new '13 model, as the quality and features are substantially
improved.
